Itineraries

Within the natural area of the Estany de Sils you will find 3 circular routes signposted. Come and walk around the Estany and let yourself be surprised by the beauty of its landscapes. You can also observe the fauna that inhabits from one of its observatories or learn more about the Estany de Sils by visiting the IDE (Information Desk of the Estany de Sils).

Itinerary 1: Walk around the Estany de Sils

  • Distance: 3,5 km
  • Approximate duration: on foot between 45 minutes and 1 hour, by bike 30 minutes
  • Difficulty: very easy
  • Type: Circular

This is an itinerary to know the area in process of recovery of the Estany de Sils. The walk starts at the south car park of the railway station. Following the signs, we leave the village through the neighborhood of the church and after crossing the bridge over the ditch, we will head into the regenerated wetland zone. Then we find the viewpoint, where we will have a panoramic view of the Estany and the reeds and groves that surround it. Further on, the three observatories allow us to observe waterfowl. Likewise, along the route we can see up close the aquatic vegetation, such as the reed, the carex and the riparian trees. Then we visit the area of wet meadows in recovery, a characteristic landscape of the Estany. To return to Sils, we will retreat along the path that borders the ditch to the starting point of the itinerary.

Itinerary 2: The Route of the Old Observatory

This route will allow you to discover the diverse landscapes that make up our territory. From the church quarter, with its old houses and the church of Santa Maria, continuing through the Mediterranean holm oak forests, the fields and the poplars, to the vegetation of wetlands and the area in recovery of the natural area of Estany de Sils. During this journey you can enjoy the panoramic views offered by the old observatory, one of the first observatories that were installed in the area and that shows magnificent views over the temporary lagoon, a flood zone that varies depending on the rains, and the scythe meadows that are recovering.

 

Itinerary 3: The Route through the lagoons

  • Approximate duration: on foot 2 hours and 30 minutes, by bike 1 hour and 20 minutes
  • Difficulty: medium
  • Type: Circular

This is an itinerary that borders the limits of the ancient Estany de Sils, before its desiccation. We leave the south parking lot of the railway train station, towards the church, in the direction of the poplars. The itinerary crosses a humid area that combines forest environments with poplar plantations and scythe or grassland meadows, and that hosts numerous animal species, among which birds stand out, for their spectacularity. The tour is suitable for all types of users. It is almost completely flat and broadly follows the perimeter of the natural area that gives it its name. It allows a pleasant walk and, if you are lucky, you can observe part of the fauna associated with the humid environments of the lagoon areas.

This itinerary coincides with route number 9 of BTT of the region of La Selva.
